Police are investigating an unusual discovery in Lawrenceville.
A man found bones in a crawl space in the basement of an old duplex on 42nd Street while installing air conditioning.
The man, who did not want to be identified, says he found 14 bones cut up in thin pieces buried in the dirt.
"The way that they were cut up it just struck me odd because they're cut up so thin as if someone was trying to get rid of something and hide something," he said.
So far, police insist they have no idea what kind of bones they are. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner will determine if they're human.
Meantime, police are upset that the worker collected the bones, put them in a box, brought them back to his office and then took them to his home in Plum because he could have disturbed a crime scene.
The worker tells KDKA he just wasn't sure what to do.
"I didn't want to report cow bones or lamb bones to the police so I wanted to get other people's opinions first," he explained.
The Medical Examiner has not yet received the bones.
Stay with KDKA for the latest developments.
