Seven Springs Wants To Re-Open Laurel Mt. Resort

LIGONIER (KDKA) ― There could soon be another place to hit the slopes in Westmoreland County.

The Laurel Mountain Ski Resort has been closed since 2004. But now - Seven Springs Mountain Resort wants to re-open it.

Seven Springs announced this week that it has entered into an agreement with the Somerset Trust Company to take over operations of the state-owned ski area.

There are still a few pieces that need to come together. Seven Springs CEO Eric Mauck said that his resort still needs to reach a lease agreement with the state for the land. They also need to work out the release of state funding to help with operational costs.

There's no time frame yet as to when Laurel Mountain would open. If all goes according to plan - the re-opening could bring more than 100 jobs to the area.
