Central Catholic Football Player Dies

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A high school football player who suffered an apparent stroke has died.

Kyle Wilson, 17, collapsed Thursday night while attending the McKeesport-Gateway game as a fan.

Teammates and friends kept a vigil at Children's Hospital throughout the weekend but Wilson died Monday.

The coach of the Central Catholic football team says it will be difficult but the team will play in its playoff game this weekend.

The Vikings will play Penn-Trafford on Friday evening at Fox Chapel.

This morning Central Catholic released this statement: "The Central Catholic school community is saddened by the death of Kyle Wilson. We join together in praying that Kyle be in God's presence always and for the comfort of his family and friends. It is important that we be united in support of each other during these days. Our counselors are available today to assist students in any way. A memorial mass for Kyle is being planned for our students and faculty."

Stay with KDKA for more on funeral arrangements for Wilson.
