Man Sentenced In 2003 Erie Collar Bomb Case

ERIE (KDKA) ― A man, charged in connection with the case of an Erie bank robbery involving a pizza deliveryman and a bomb, was sentenced today in court.

KDKA's Harold Hayes reports that Kenneth Barnes has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for his role as a conspirator in the case.

Last month, Barnes, 54, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and abetting charges.

Pizza deliveryman Brian Wells died when a bomb strapped to his neck went off shortly after the robbery of a PNC Bank in 2003.

Barnes and Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong are accused of forcing Wells to wear a bomb collar around his neck and rob the bank. Wells told police that he was forced at gunpoint.

Prosecutors have said that they believe Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong was planning to use the bank money to hire someone to kill her father. She has been placed under psychiatric care pending a trial.
