Brackenridge Woman's Death Remains Unsolved

TARENTUM (KDKA) ― Loved ones of a woman found dead nearly two years ago are searching for answers.

Patrick Godfrey of Brackenridge sat in Riverview Memorial Park in Tarentum, across the Allegheny River from where his sister's body was found.

"I just wish whoever he is out there would come forward, and stop running and hiding," he said.

It was back on June 14, 2007, that Godfrey's sister, Kelly Nicole Smith, was found dead in Chartiers Run, where the creek flows into the Allegheny.

Her body was found by fishermen, not long after she was reported missing. Her death was ruled a homicide and no one has been charged in the case.

Kelly's family put up a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Godfrey said his sister's son, Mason, now six years old talks about his mother almost every day.

"He [Mason] is not with me for five minutes, when he starts saying something about his mommy," Godfrey said.

Westmoreland County detectives and Lower Burrell Police are heading up the investigation into Smith's death.
