Witness Killed On North Side Remembered

PERRY SOUTH (KDKA) ― A teenager who shot and killed trying to do the right thing was remembered.

Justen Anderson, 19, died one year ago after someone shot him through a second-floor window of his grandmother's home on East Marshall Avenue in Perry South.

"There's not a lot of guys that would have did what Justen did," Marcus Reed, a friend of Justen, said. "I talked to him after the whole situation when it went down with his friend and he was scared but said he still was gonna do the right thing."

Anderson was a witness to his friend's murder on the North Side in September of 2008 and was cooperating with police.

At the time, investigators were looking into whether he was murdered because of that.

"I'm just now getting my life back together. I watched him die. And the only thing I can say is that he didn't suffer. When he took his last breath, I was there so he wasn't alone," Robbie Baldwin, Justen's grandmother, said.

Even knowing it cost Justen his life, his family still believes it was the right decision. They have a message for the young people in the community.

"What happened to Justen was wrong. But don't be afraid," Arnika Watson, Justen's cousin, said. "If you notice something is going on and shouldn't be going on, speak up, speak up."
