Officials Hope Cameras Will Curb Park Vandalism

JEANNETTE (KDKA) ― Officials in Westmoreland County are hoping new security cameras will help stop vandalism in a local park; and if all goes well, these extra eyes could be popping up in more area playgrounds.

Crews with the Jeannette Recreation Department installed two surveillance cameras this week at Altman Park.

By installing these extra sets of eyes, officials are hoping to stop vandals from spraying graffiti and damaging playground equipment.  They're also hoping to curb underage drinking in the park.

If the new 24-hour surveillance system helps curb the vandalism at Altman Park, the Jeannette Recreation Department says it may install more cameras at other parks in the community.

The cameras cost about $1500, which came from pavilion rentals at the park.
