Local Man Charged With Raping 8-Year-Old Girl

HARRISVILLE (KDKA) ― Investigators say the mother of a girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted knew her boyfriend was a registered sexual offender.

Jason Hites, 27, of Harrisville, is charged with assaulting the girl on three occasions. One assault was in Butler County, the other two were in Mercer County.

He is accused of raping the girl several times from December 2006 until July 2009.

"It began reportedly when the girl was four years of age and she's eight years of age now," State Police Trooper Dan Kesten said.

Hites lived in a home on Houston Avenue with his grandmother, brother and girlfriend with whom he had a two-year-old daughter.

"The baby cried all the time. It cried and cried and cried," a neighbor told KDKA-TV.

The 8-year-old who visited on the weekends was a child from a previous relationship.

"The girl had actually attempted to tell her mother in the past where the mother chose not to take any action," Kesten said.

The child eventually told a 10-year-old cousin who reported it to the family.

State police say Hites is now in the Mercer County Jail on $75,000 bond.

Hites is facing charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent exposure, indecent assault, sexual assault, indecent exposure, corruption of minors and failure to comply with registration of sexual offenders requirements.
