Iron City's Brewing Operations Moving To Latrobe

Union Leader Unsure About Jobs Moving To Latrobe

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Iron City Beer has been brewed and bottled in Lawrenceville for more than a century, but at the end of the month production at that location will come to an end.

The brewery is moving to Latrobe where Rolling Rock beer used to be produced.

Iron City officials say the Lawrenceville plant has air and electrical problems that would cost $12 million to $15 million to fix.

They would also need $2 million to upgrade its can line.

According to the company, it would no longer be cost-effective to operate at their present location.

However, officials say they hope most of the 50 or so jobs can move to Latrobe but the union is not certain.

"It was news to me that they plan on taking those people up there. I don't know how it can be done because we have a seniority list and seniority roster and a contract for the Latrobe people up there," Ken Ream, a spokesperson for the union said.

Officials say the last brewing in Lawrenceville is set for June 22nd.
