Butler Man Killed In Hot Air Balloon Accident

BERNALILLO, N.M. (KDKA) ― A local man was killed in a hot air balloon crash.

Steven Lachendro, of Butler, was killed when the balloon he was in crashed in Bernalillo, just outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Lachendro was in a balloon called "Wings of Wind."

He and pilot Keith Sproul of New Jersey were flying it in Albuquerque's International Balloon Fiesta when their balloon hit power lines and there was an explosion.

Both men fell into a ditch but paramedics couldn't save Lachendro.

This wasn't the first accident for that balloon. Last year it crashed into a retaining wall.
