Suspect Sought In Deadly Homewood Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Pittsburgh police are looking for the suspect in a deadly shooting late Wednesday night in Homewood.

According to police, 22-year-old Deon Smith was shot just before 10:30 p.m. in front of his home on North Braddock Avenue. Investigators report that the victim was found lying on the steps of his home.

Police say they believe he was with a group of friends when a young man approached with a gun and shot him. The suspect then fled on foot from the scene.

Smith was taken to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead.

Victory Security guards, who were driving nearby, chased the suspect, authorities report.

Police say the guards told them that the suspect may have hidden in an abandoned building on Bennett Street. The SWAT Team was called in and the building was searched.

Officials say SWAT officers found male and female inside. They were questioned, but were released and are not considered suspects.

The suspect is described as wearing a light-colored shirt, shorts and a safari-style hat at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Pittsburgh Homicide Office at 412-323-7161.
