Hill Residents, Officials To Meet Over Development

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Leaders in the Hill District community plan to meet today with city and county officials in a last-minute effort to reach an agreement on community development in their neighborhood.

The group is scheduled to meet this afternoon.

This meeting will be the first since members of the One Hill Coalition rejected a deal offered earlier this week by setting the plan on fire.

Hill District residents argue that the plan is vague and ignores other issues that were negotiated over the past three months.

Some of the demands by Hill residents include money to support development of affordable housing, jobs from new multi-purpose arena development, restoring historic locations and building a new grocery store.

Officials say a sticking point has been funding to support development, and other services in the Hill District.

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and County Executive Dan Onorato say they don't anticipate making many changes to their plan, but they will sit down with the members and talk before the vote on the arena master plan on set for Monday.

Earlier this week, Onorato issued a statement saying that he respects Hill District residents and shares their goal for positive development.
