Steelers Given Permission To Build On Lot

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Tempers flared at a meeting over the rights to develop a site between Heinz Field and PNC Park.

The stadium authority gave the Steelers permission to build on a parking lot near Heinz Field.

The team's option on the land expired last year.

North Side residents wanted to reopen the bidding process and ensure the developer agreed to a community benefits agreement.

Critics say the public is being short-changed in the deal.

The team bought the rights to develop the land for $1.3 million but the property is valued at more than $10 million.

The Steelers plan to build an amphitheater and hotel on the land.
