After Monday's soggy mess at Heinz Field, many Steelers' fans are asking whether it is time to switch to an artificial playing surface.
KDKA's Alison Morris reports that weather aside, fans have had tons of suggestions about what the Steelers can do to improve the conditions at Heinz Field.
Those suggestions range from everything from bringing in fake Astroturf to having a dome put on the field.
Conditions were so bad that the game had to be delayed by 25 minutes because of lightning and heavy rain.
"Wow, it was unbelievable, the weather, rain. It was crazy," said one fan.
"My husband and son were there, and I felt really, really bad for them, and very happy for the rest of the family who could enjoy it at home," said one smiling fan.
However, despite what fans thought about the weather or field conditions, many were still smiling because the Steelers pulled off a win over the winless Miami Dolphins with just 17 seconds left in the game.
Some said the field looked like swamp.
"Like a sponge
a wet sponge. I mean, the ball would just die, you know, no traction, no nothing. It was awful, but it's a victory for the Steelers, that's all that counts," said a fan.
The original plan for the field was to leave the new sod in place throughout the regular season and into the playoffs.
KDKA contacted the Steelers today to see if we could check out the field conditions first-hand and to find out what they were going to do with it.
Their response: no access and no comment.
