Largest Local Habitat For Humanity Project Begins

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Three local families will soon be in new homes, thanks to an ambitious project by Habitat for Humanity.

The organization is participating in a national "Home Builder's Blitz," building three homes on Chessland Street in the city's Westwood neighborhood in two weeks.

The three recipient families are working right along side the other volunteers.

They say getting their own homes will be life changing.

"It means so much. I've been a renter my whole life as an adult," said Theresa Williams. "I have four children. It's going to mean the world to us."

The first of the three houses, sponsored by local builder Heartland Homes, will be ready in a couple of weeks.

The other two will be finished by year's end.

Eventually nine Habitat homes will be built on Chessland Street.
