More H1N1 Cases Suspected At Local School

McCANDLESS (KDKA) ― There are several more suspected cases of the H1N1 virus in the North Allegheny School District following a confirmed case last week.

Just when you thought the concern around swine flu had died down, news of more possible cases is circulating.

"I'd hate to have this become something where kids who are ill get ostracized in anyway," said mother Mary Ann Badaczewski.

Badaczewski has one son who goes to Carson Middle School.

That's the same school that confirmed one student with the swine flu just last week.

And now there's the possibility that three other students and one teacher may have the H1N1 virus.

"The school has taken precautions. I trust the school. I know their first objective is to keep the kids safe," said Badaczewski.

Badaczewski isn't too afraid because her son is healthy but there's one thing that is bothering her.

"I get a little concerned that this is getting blown out of proportions. There are lots of other worse ailments I think," said Badaczewski.

Diane Pisarcik has a child who goes to McKnight Elementary School which is minutes from Carson and she too heard about the swine flu case and possible others.

This mother has a different take.

"I feel that it's very serious. I do feel though that the letters that we have received have demonstrated the school's awareness of its seriousness. It's not held back anything," said Pisarcik.

Allegheny County Health Department Dr. Bruce Dixon says everyone should be cautious but not overly concerned no matter what side of the fence they are on with this issue.

"We feel there's nothing that people should be alarmed. Go on about business as usual. In a matter of a couple of weeks when school is out this will become a non-story," said Dr. Dixon.

There's no word on these test results.
