Greenfield Sex Assault Suspect Had Prior Record

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The KDKA investigators have learned that a man accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Greenfield has been convicted of sex crimes in the past.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections website, Clyde Haidle faced a list of charges, including first-degree rape, attempted rape and sodomy.

At least one case involved a child. All of the crimes happened in the 1980s.

Oklahoma records indicate Haidle was in prison there from 1987 until 2002.

After he got out, at some point he moved to Pittsburgh but didn't notify officials there or register here which he was required to do under Pennsylvania's Megan's Law.

Shawn Kopa lives along Ivondale Street, a couple hundred yards away from the abandoned house where police say Haidle raped an 11-year-old girl last week.

The first place the victim ran after the assault was Kopa's home where she was taken in by Shawn and his wife.

Haidle's criminal record enrages them.

"That girl might never be the same for the rest of her life," he said. "She might never have a healthy normal childhood for the rest of her life because of someone like him - a scum ball."

The Kopas have three kids of their own. Nina tried to calm the rape victim down. KDKA's Marty Griffin showed her Haidle's criminal record.

She's convinced he should still be in jail.

"It's just scary to know that somebody's out there on the streets when they have a record like this in our neighborhood let alone," she said.

Griffin: "And to know that you actually looked this girl in the eye - this must make you extra angry?"

Kopa: "Yeah it does and she was only 11. It's just horrible what happened."
