Alleged "Graffiti King" Due In Court

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A local artist with an exhibit on display at the Mattress Factory will be in court today to face allegations that he caused over $100,000 in damages with a can of spray paint.

Detectives with the city police Graffiti Task Force arrested Daniel Montano, 22, last week in connection with dozens of cases of vandalism around the city.

Montano was finishing up his display at the art gallery for opening night at the time of his arrest.

Police charged Montano with 6 felony counts and 19 misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief/graffiti.

This isn't the first time Montano has been in trouble with the law.

When detectives arrested him last March, they called him the "king of graffiti" – alleging that he used variations of his tag "MFONE" to vandalize over 100 locations around the city.

After his latest arrest, Montano was being held on $50,000 bond at the Allegheny County Jail's behavioral clinic.
