A Ford City High School junior is dead after an accident on the way to school this morning.
Shawna Petrosky, 17, was killed when the Chevy Cavalier she was driving hit a tractor-trailer carrying a steel coil on Main Street (Route 66) and Pleasantview Drive in Ford City.
The force of the accident caused the 41,000 pound coil to come loose and crush Petrosky's car.
The Armstrong County Coroner says it is unclear whether Petrosky died from the crash or from the force of the coil.
The truck driver, Sam Libengood, 44, of Saltsburg, and two passengers inside the Cavalier, Eric Petrosky and Greg Heeter, were injured.
Eric Petrosky and Heeter are both eighth graders at Ford City Junior-Senior High School.
They were both flown to Children's Hospital.
Eric Petrosky, the victim's brother, suffered serious injuries, and was last listed in fair condition.
Heeter, the victim's cousin, was last listed in serious condition.
School officials say Shawna Petrosky was a popular student and cheerleader.
Witnesses say the traffic lights at the intersection where the accident took place were still flashing red and yellow at 7:20 a.m., when the accident took place.
Those lights are scheduled to begin operating at 6:30 a.m.
Route 66 in the area has now reopened to traffic.
The school district is offering grief counseling to the students at the school.
