Flight 93 Memorial To Be Done By 10th Anniversary

SHANKSVILLE (KDKA/AP) ― Officials gathered for an announcement today about the progress of the Flight 93 National Memorial.

Gov. Ed Rendell and Sen. Arlen Specter visited Somerset County today for the announcement.

The local politicans along with National Park Service officials and members of Families of Flight 93 signed a letter of commitment Friday morning in Somerset, Pa.

The letter outlines a timeline to complete the memorial and says the groundbreaking will be held in November.

The national memorial is being planned at the site of the September 11, 2001 plane crash in Shanksville. A major hurdle was recently overcome with the owner of a key parcel of land at the crash site agreeing to sell it.

Planners say that they want the memorial ready for the 10th anniversary of the crash in 2011.
