Cause Of Fire That Injured 5 Under Investigation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ― Investigators are searching for the cause of a pre-dawn blaze at the Reinhold Ice Cream Company on the North Side that sent five firefighters to the hospital.

Flames broke out just after 4:30am at the plant on Fulton Street.

According to authorities, the firefighters were inside the structure when part of a ceiling collapsed.

The firefighters were taken to Pittsburgh area hospitals for treatment.

Three of the injured firefighters were treated and released.  Officials say the two who remain hospitalized did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the fire started in the boiler room of the plant; but the cause is still under investigation.
