Traffic Stop Leads To Suspect In Local Car Thefts

PERRYOPOLIS (KDKA) ― One traffic stop blew the lid off of a rash of car thefts in Fayette County.

Police say 23-year-old Jason Cardine III, from New Salem and a 21-year-old female allegedly stole more than 150 items from more than 30 different vehicles in Perry Township, Jefferson Township, Franklin Township and Perryopolis.

The incidents happened late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

State Police say the suspects stole anything they could get from wallets and electronics to medical equipment and even a handgun.

Most of the items were recovered from Cardine's vehicle during the traffic stop.

He's now being held in the Fayette County Prison on a theft charge.

Police are taking inventory of the items taken from Cardine's vehicle and when their investigation is complete they'll file more charges.
