Funeral Held For Former Steeler Ernie Holmes

JASPER, Texas (KDKA) ― Ernie Holmes, an original member of the Steelers' Steel Curtain, was laid to rest today in Jasper, Texas.

The former Steelers' defensive end was killed in a one-vehicle crash near his Texas home last week.

Hundreds turned out to say a final goodbye to the former Steeler, including some of his former teammates like Mel Blount and Joe Greene.

And at today's funeral, Holmes was remembered for both his days as a football great as well as his post-football life when he found religion, started his own church in Texas and became a spiritual leader.

"He gave love and at the end of his life, he finally found a way to receive love," said Greene.

Holmes was nicknamed 'Fats' by his teammates and 'Arrowhead' by his fans.

He won two Super Bowls with the Steelers.
