Environmental Group Tests Baby Products

A national environmental group is warning parents that ingredients in some of the most popular baby products could be dangerous to the health of children.
The Environmental Working Group surveyed more than 3,000 parents in order to find out their favorite baby shampoos, body washes, lotions, powders and wipes. Then, the ingredients were analyzed.
Officials with the group say they found 1,700 products that contain ingredients that the government has not assessed for safety.
The group estimates that children are exposed to an average of 27 of these ingredients a day.
They say that's a concern, since children are more vulnerable to chemicals than adults.
"We also found that products can contain chemicals that raise concerns when it comes to potential health impacts," says Jane Houlihan, of the Environmental Working Group.
"We found that there aren't standards for a lot of the marketing claims we see on children's products. Just because they say safe for kids, doesn't mean it's necessarily so," she adds. "There aren't standards for a lot of those marketing claims."
