Family's Christmas Gifts Destroyed In House Fire

EAST MCKEESPORT (KDKA) ― An East McKeesport family was all ready for Christmas with their shopping done and presents wrapped, but those gifts went up in flames as a fire swept through their home.

Noreen Dodds says this was the first year ever she was ready for Christmas early. The Melrose Avenue house had been her family's home for 20 years.

The family noticed flames in their bathroom ceiling late Thursday afternoon. By the time firefighters got there, flames roared through the house.

They had just enough time to get out safely.

"Just thank God it happened in the middle of the afternoon because it went so fast," Dodds tells KDKA. "If we were sleeping I couldn't say that we would've gotten out."

The cause of the fire is not known yet, but the Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating.
