A convicted rapist whom police say attacked several women in the city's East End in the summers of 2000 and 2001 will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Today Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey Manning sentenced Keith Wood to 80 to 160 years in prison.
The Highland Park man came to be known came to be known as the "East End Rapist," usually crawling through first floor bedroom windows, armed with a butcher knife or screw driver -- raping and robbing women from June 2000-until May 2001.
In June, a jury convicted Wood of End of four counts of rape. Jurors could not reach a verict in a fifth case because there was no DNA evidence.
Wood, who maintained his innocence throughout his trial, again denied any role in the rapes.
During his sentencing hearing this morning, Wood told the court:
"I may have been in trouble before in my life. I'm very sorry for what happened to these women, but I am not the rapist."
Investigators, however, say DNA linked him to four of the sexual assaults.
At his sentencing, Wood heard directly from two of his victims -- women who say they will never be the same because of what he did to them.
With her sense of independence shattered by the July 2000 attack, one of the women asked judge to levy the harshest punishment possible, saying Wood needs to know "what it is like to have precious time taken away."
