The Duquesne community is in shock following the death of the chief of their EMS over the weekend while he responded to a car accident.
Harry Moore, 77, of Duquesne, responded to the three-vehicle collision on the Thompson Run Bridge Sunday night as he's done for 20 years as an emergency responder.
But it was Moore's last response. While walking at the scene, officials say he collapsed and died a short time later.
"He was a cohesion factor that kept the group together," said Moore's friend, Gary Schink.
At Schink's Hardware Store, Moore was remembered today because he's been a big part of the Duquesne community for years.
"He first started out working with the lumber company in Duquesne," said Schink. "He was a carpenter; then, he had a shop where they custom-made windows and doors and I knew him as he did some work for my father."
Moore was so much a part of the emergency response team in Duquesne that many in the community now say they hope that the unit will not fall apart now that Moore is gone.
"I just hope the EMS system doesn't falter because of it," added Schink.
Moore was pronounced dead at Braddock Hospital.
