Alleged Duquesne Hit & Run Driver Held On $1M Bond

DUQUESNE (KDKA) ― The man police say is responsible for a hit and run that killed two people Friday night is in the Allegheny County Jail on $1 million straight cash bond.

Robert Bartok, 53, of Munhall, is facing a list of charges in the deaths of 26-year-old Paul Schmidt and 31-year-old Kelly Vasko, both of Greensburg.

Schmidt and Vasko were riding a motorcycle on Route 837 in Duquesne when police say Bartok's Dodge Neon crossed the center line and hit them. He allegedly fled the scene.

Investigators later found his car on Lea Street in Munhall.

Court documents show that when police approached Bartok, he said: "Are you guys here about the motorcycle that hit into me?"

Then officers noticed the blood that appeared to be on the driver's side front bumper under the headlight.

Bartok eventually told police he was, "aware that he struck the vehicle, however he fled the scene in fear of being arrested for DUI," according to court documents.

Bartok has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of failure to drive on the right side of the road, two counts of homicide by vehicle, two counts of homicide by vehicle while DUI and two counts of an accident involving death or personal injury.
