Duquesne Light Customers Can Save On Bill
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Natural gas prices dropped July 1, but that's not a big concern for many of you right now.
This is the time of year when electric bills soar.
If you are a Duquesne Light customer, you may have already received a letter from Dominion Peoples Plus offering you a deal if you bundle your utilities with them.
"Now that I am retired on a fixed income," said Bill Gordon of Allison Park. "I'm always looking for ways to save."
Dominion Peoples Plus offers you 10 percent off your electric bill. It's a straight 10 percent off the generation portion of your Duquesne Light bill, which is most of your bill but there's a catch.
You have to accept a fixed price for natural gas through May 2010.
For Dominion Peoples Gas customers, that's $8.27 per mcf. Compare that to the current price from Dominion Peoples Gas Company of $5.11 through October.
"That doesn't seem like such a good price now," said Bill Gordon.
And now it isn't a good price, but Dan Donovan of Dominion Peoples Plus says it could be a great price come winter time.
"Nobody really knows what gas prices will be going forward to October and January and both those dates the utility gas prices will change," explained Donovan. "Nobody knows what those rates will be. Those fixed rates appeal to people who want certainty."
Or people who want to gamble that winter gas prices will be much higher than today's prices.
For customers not willing to take the risk with bundled savings, there is still a way to save money on your electric bill. Dominion Peoples Plus is offering a 5 percent discount for people who just choose electric savings.
There are offers for Duquesne Light customers who have Columbia Gas or Equitable Gas, too.
A word of warning: If you are interested in either deal, you have to wait until Monday to call Dominion Peoples Plus.
Friday is a vacation day and they won't be in until Monday morning.
