Donegal American Legion Burglarized Again

DONEGAL (KDKA) ― A local veterans' club has been burglarized for the second time in just two weeks.

The Donegal American Legion was hit early Monday morning.

Club steward Bob Kozlowski says the bartender left the bar just before 2 a.m. and just minutes later the burglar entered by prying open the front door with a crow bar.

The burglar went straight to the office and rummaged through the closets. He tried to open the safe, but was unsuccessful.

The suspect ended up taking a Steelers gift basket that was intended for a raffle, but ended up ditching it outside the club, taking only a pink Terrible Towel.

Two weeks ago, a burglar made his way into the club's safe getting away with around $1,600.

The Donegal American Legion burglaries are just two of six burglaries at local veterans' or service clubs in the last 15 days.

The Donegal American Legion, Blairsville VFW, Unity Township American Legion and Youngwood Moose Lodge were also hit.

Police are now reviewing surveillance video from both the Blairsville and Donegal break-ins. They are hoping to release those pictures to the public sometime this week.

Local veterans say these burglaries are disrespectful to their clubs which are run by veterans. They're hoping police will quickly make an arrest.

If you have any information about any of these burglaries, you're asked to contact State police in Greensburg.
