Local Dentist To Stand Trial On Assault Charges

A number of counts were dismissed in which some women testified that they were assaulted while they were unconscious

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A dentist from Mt. Lebanon is heading to trial to face allegations that he sexually assaulted some of his patients while they were under anesthesia.

Dr. Robert Boyda, Jr. is accused of sexually assaulting and exposing himself to some of his patients while they were under the influence of anesthesia during oral surgery.

The prosecution maintains that the incidents happened at Boyda's offices in Robinson and Scott Township between 2002 and 2007.

During his extended preliminary hearing, 20 women brought charges against Boyda.

After hearing closing arguments this morning, a district judge determined that there was enough evidence to hold Boyda over for trial.

A number of counts, however, were dismissed in which some of the women testified that they were assaulted while they were unconscious.

Boyda has denied all the accusations.

His attorney says he may argue that the anesthesia used can cause sexual hallucinations in some instances.
