Thousands Of Students Graduate From DARE Program

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― More than 2,000 students graduated from the D.A.R.E. program today at a special ceremony at Heinz Field.

It's not only the first of its kind, it's the largest of its kind in the country graduation ceremony in the country.

Thousands of 4th, 5th and 6th graders from 47 different schools took part in the festivities.

D.A.R.E. is designed to teach the students about drugs and violence and help them make smart and safe decisions.

The students also got to meet celebrities like Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl who is a D.A.R.E. graduate himself.

"I hope they get the message that there is hope, there is opportunity if you do the right thing," said Ravenstahl.

The police say this is a labor of love and they hope to have many more graduations in the future.
