Another Day Of Deliberations In Wecht Trial Ends

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ―

Day 10 of deliberations for the federal jury in the fraud trial of former Allegheny County Coroner Dr. Cyril Wecht has now ended.

KDKA's Harold Hayes reports that the jury has wrapped up for the day and will continue deliberations for an 11th day on Tuesday.

The jury has now deliberated for a more than 50 hours so far.

On Thursday, they told the judge that they were deadlocked and did not believe more deliberations would change that.

Since then, the judge has refused prosecutors' request to tell the jury they can return a partial verdict if they are unanimous on some, but not all charges.

They reconvened this morning for a 10th day at 8 a.m.

KDKA's Harold Hayes also reports that the judge has now denied a request by the defense for a mistrial.

Wecht is accused of using his former staff at the Allegheny County Coroner's Office to do work for his private practice.

Stay with KDKA for the latest developments.
