Wecht Jury Ends Seventh Day Of Deliberations

PITTSBURGH (AP) ― A U.S. District Court jury has ended its seventh day of deliberations without reaching a verdict in the fraud trial of celebrity pathologist and former Allegheny County Coroner Cyril Wecht.

Federal prosecutors say the 77-year-old Wecht used his former county coroner's staff for his personal benefit and to do work for his lucrative private practice.

Wecht's attorneys say the 41 charges against him are minor administrative issues that don't rise to the level of federal crimes.

On Thursday, jurors asked the judge whether they would be considered a hung jury if a unanimous verdict could not be reached on one or more counts.

The judge said no.
