Jury Deliberations Resume In Wecht Fraud Trial

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ― A U.S. District Court jury has resumed deliberations in the fraud trial of celebrity pathologist and former Allegheny County Coroner Cyril Wecht.

The jury deliberated three days without reaching a verdict last week.

They were off Friday through Monday, returned Tuesday to continue discussing the evidence presented to support a 41-count indictment.

Federal prosecutors say Wecht used his former county coroner's staff for his personal benefit and to do work for his lucrative private practice.

Wecht's attorneys say the charges against him are minor administrative issues that don't rise to the level of federal crimes.
