Witness: Wecht Never Performed Autopsies In Office

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― There was more damaging testimony against former Allegheny County Coroner Doctor Cyril Wecht today.

A union representative with the Service Employees International Union said Doctor Wecht was "rude, arrogant and unprofessional" when confronted about an employee's complaint about doing Wecht's errands.

The witness said Wecht also told that person, "I only gave you your job because of a relative."

Dr Bennett Omalu, who was a neuro-pathologist who studied brains while he worked for the Coroner from 1998 to 2007, was also on the stand today.

"I did not see him perform an autopsy at the Coroner's office," said Dr. Omalu. "I would see him actively involved in performing private autopsies at Carlow or the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science."

Wecht faces federal charges for allegedly using his public office for his private practice.
