Crucible Woman's Death Appears To Be Accidental

CRUCIBLE (KDKA) ― Investigators say the death of an elderly woman in Greene County appears to be accidental.

Olga Zappone, 78, was found dead in her Crucible home.

A gun was found in the room with her, but an autopsy by Dr. Cyril Wecht determined there was no gunshot wound.

She died after apparently falling and hitting her head on the corner of a coffee table.

"The injury to the back of the head was caused by a fall probably into the end of an end table or something like that," Cumberland Township Police Lt. George Lewis said.

"The elderly woman was on blood thinners and basically, possibly may have severed an artery in the back of her head which caused her to bleed out," he added.

When police arrived at Zappone's home, it was a bloody scene. It turns out the gun belonged to the elderly woman.
