Man Accused Of Hiding Body In Freezer In Court

BUTLER (KDKA) ― A Butler County man who's accused of keeping his mother's corpse in a freezer so he could collect her Social Security and pension checks is in court facing a hearing on firearms violations.

Police say Phillip Royer, Jr. of Cranberry hid the body of his 90-year-old mother inside the home that they shared on Vandivort Drive in August 2006.

Bobbie Royer died of natural causes; but her son reportedly told police he put her body in a freezer so he could collect her retirement money.

In a separate case, Cranberry Township police charged Royer with possessing a handgun without a license in September 2006.

Once court proceedings on the firearms violations against Royer wrap up, a new jury will be seated to hear testimony in the abuse of a corpse case.
