Clarion Blogger Sheds Pounds, Inspires Others
CLARION (KDKA) ―
Just three years ago, a Clarion woman tipped the scales at nearly 300 pounds.
Today, she weighs less than 130 pounds and is an inspiration for thousands of people across the country.
Lynn Bering, 44, is a well-known columnist in Clarion but she stopped writing because she didn't want her pudgy picture appearing in The Clarion News anymore.
That's when Lynn decided to join Weight Watchers. It was a big help to her diet and slowly the pounds started coming off.
"I started out very slowly and then I suddenly lost about a pound a week, pound and a half a week. I was just motivated because I was just tired of being tired," she said.
Then she took a step further, adding exercise to her routine.
"I walked the track at Clarion University. And I walked a mile and then a couple miles, and pretty soon was walking a 5K in 38 minutes. And now I exercise at a gym," Bering said.
But when she lost 168 pounds in two years, she started blogging about the weight loss and she gives tips.
"You have to learn to tell yourself, 'No.' No you can't have that chocolate. Yes, this is a hard journey, but you have to say no," she said.
Now everyone wants to know about it. She's appeared in People magazine and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Tens of thousands view her blog as she puts out the word on how to shed pounds.
"If I'm inspiring others, they in turn inspire me. So that's been the best part."
