Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl says the city is expanding operation of its 311 hotline to 24-hours and doubling the number of lines to help meet residents' needs in the aftermath of this weekend's massive snowstorm.
Ravenstahl says the 311 lines have been jammed since the storm; but they're still encouraging residents who need assistance to call.
"The National Guard will also be available for emergency-type situations for individuals that may have had to stay in their house the last three or four days," the mayor added, "so if you have dialysis or insulin needs or you have some sort of pills that you need to get, you can call our 311 line. We'll prioritize and we'll attempt to get the National Guard out to help you with anything that you need."
The mayor says the city is bringing in equipment to double the amount of calls they can handle. "We right now have eight lines functioning," Ravenstahl told reporters; but he said they are planning to increase that to 16-lines by lunchtime tomorrow.
In the meantime, city crews are scrambling to get all the side streets cleared before the next snowstorm hits. To do so, the mayor has asked for help from any contractors with equipment to help with snow and/or tree removal. Anyone who is able to do so is asked to call 412-473-2550 or call the city's 311 line.
