Three Hospitalized After Hit & Run In Carmichaels

CARMICHAELS (KDKA) ― Two boys and a girl were hospitalized Saturday evening following a hit and run accident in Greene County.

Investigators say the driver of the SUV involved in the incident is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. on Browns Ferry Road in Carmichaels.

Police say two of the victims were on their bicycles, and a third was believed to be walking or standing near them.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said he was on his tractor and mowing his lawn at the time of the incident. He rushed over to help the victims.

"There was glass on the road and I had three kids that were down on the ground hurt," he said. "One was really critical; unconscious the whole time. The two were still conscious, talking, but still in bad shape."

State police immediately saturated the area after getting a description of the SUV. A short time later, police say the vehicle was stopped on Route 21.

"One of the troopers intercepted the vehicle that fled from the scene," said Trooper Steven Dowlin, of the Pennsylvania State Police. "The actor in this case was subsequently taken into custody and is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol at this time."

State police spent several hours at the accident scene taking pictures and measurements and reconstructing the mishap.

Also, officials say the three victims were flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia for treatment.

There is no word on their conditions.
