Kidnap Attempt Thwarted In Butler Parking Lot

BUTLER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― Police in Butler Township remain on the lookout for a man who allegedly tried to kidnap a 7-year-old boy.

The incident happened at about 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Wal-Mart parking lot along New Castle Road.

Investigators say a 17-year-old girl was loading groceries in her car when she turned around and saw a man leading away her brother by the wrist.

The girl told police that the man, described as a white male age 35 to 45, told the boy: "Come with me."

When she yelled at the man, he let go of her brother and fled towards North Duffy Road.

The man had a long brown beard and was wearing a white bandanna, a dark-colored shirt and blue jeans. He's believed to be about 6' tall.

Butler Township Police want anyone with information to call them at 724-285-9600.

There's no word yet on whether surveillance cameras may have captured the incident.
