Fire Destroys Retired Firefighter's Home

VENANGO TWP (KDKA) ― An early morning fire destroyed the home of a Butler County man.

Flames ravaged two trailer homes in Venango Township, Butler County around 1:15 a.m.

The man, who is a light sleeper and a retired Pittsburgh firefighter, along with his 9-year-old son, escaped the fire safely. Their pet dog died.

Eau Claire Fire Chief Ed Deal believes the fire was started by a wood burner.

The fire victim has insurance and is staying with friends. However, all of the family's Christmas presents were destroyed.
