Neighbors Saddened By Brighton Heights Boy's Death

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A Brighton Heights family is in mourning after a three-year-old boy died.

Investigators say Matthew Kunsak somehow got a plastic bag over his head and suffocated.

The child was found unresponsive at the family's home Monday night.   KDKA's Paul Martino reports the boy was supposed to be taking a nap in a third-floor bedroom.  Attempts were made to resuscitate Matthew.

Meanwhile, neighbors are saddened by the boy's death.

Mary Anne White, a friend of the Kunsak family, says Matthew's mother raised five babies, including twins. Matthew was one of the twins.

"She's a wonderful mother and you know they're an excellent family, and it's just a very sad situation," she said.

The Kunsak family operates a funeral home in Brighton Heights.

Pittsburgh Police aren't commenting on the investigation. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner says Matthew died from asphyxiation due to smothering.
