A police officer is now facing charges in a 2007 hit and run accident that left a man dead on Pittsburgh's South Side.
Investigators say 38-year-old Donnie Breeden, a 15-year veteran on the Crafton Police Department, allegedly hit 24-year-old David Hall back in July of 2007.
Hall later died from the accident.
Breeden has been charged with one count each of involuntary manslaughter and accidents involving death or personal injury.
According to police, Hall had been talking to a bus driver and was walking back to a nearby sidewalk when he was struck near the Duquesne Incline on West Carson Street.
Authorities say Breeden allegedly hit the victim while driving in his Chevy Trailblazer.
Officials say he is accused of leaving the scene afterward, and not calling for help.
"This is like a slap in the face; all he had to do was stop," said Assistant Chief Maurita Bryant, of Pittsburgh Police. "You stop, you render aid; you wait for police to arrive. But he chose to keep going; to keep it a secret for all this time."
Nearly two years after the accident, police said it was a tip that led investigators to the arrest.
Officials say the officer turned himself in to police and was being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
