Man Charged In Deadly Bethel Park Confrontation

BETHEL PARK (KDKA) ― One man is dead and another is facing a list of charges following a violent confrontation at a home early Sunday in Bethel Park.

Officials say when officers arrived on the scene on Grey Fox Circle, the victim, 49-year-old John Pavlick, was trapped under a vehicle.

"The officers checked his vital signs at that time and they discovered he was deceased," said Bethel Park Police Chief John Mackey.

According to the criminal complaint, the altercation started when the suspect, Jason Kasper, 34, showed up at Pavlick's house refusing to leave.

The complaint reports that Pavlick and his wife, Tracey, were having marital problems and she had allegedly been involved in a relationship with Kasper.

The report goes on to say that Kasper and Pavlick got into a fight in his front yard and when his wife tried to break it up, Kasper got into his car, backed up on the grass toward the victim and hit a tree.

Authorities say Pavlick's wife reported to police officers that her husband kicked the door of the vehicle and jumped on the hood. Also, she said Kasper pressed the gas pedal and drove into a neighbor's yard - as evidenced by tire marks.

Officials report that Tracey Pavlick said she then ran to call 911 as well as to a neighbor's home to get help for her husband. That's when police arrived, and Kasper was taken into custody.

"He's charged with a general count of criminal homicide, homicide by motor vehicle, homicide by vehicle while DUI, driving under the influence, reckless driving and trespass by motor vehicle," said Chief Mackey of Kasper.

Pavlick owned a roofing company and his friends are saddened over his death.

"We grew up together on the same street and he was really a kind-hearted individual - that if you needed something done on your home, he was a contractor, he would do it - money wasn't the issue. He would do it purely out of favor," said Pavlick's friend, Dave Gordon. "I'm beside myself over this whole thing."

Kasper, also of Bethel Park, is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
