Runaway Trailer Hits Parked Car In Beechview

BEECHVIEW (KDKA) ― A commercial driver from Atlanta, Georgia, is facing violations and fines after a trailer he was pulling rolled down a hill and hit a parked car.

The incident happened late this morning on Rutherford Avenue in Beechview.

Police say the man, who works for Rachel Transport LLC, was driving a pickup truck that was pulling a trailer up a steep hill when he apparently jacknifed and got stuck.

When the driver tried to remove the trailer, the brake system didn't work, causing it to roll down the hill, hitting another vehicle.

No one was hurt.

The man was a commerical driver, but was not licensed to do interstate travel. Police say the man did not maintain a log book - a requirement for commercial drivers.

KDKA's Alison Morris reports the man's vehicle is impounded and he will not get his license back until he meets requirements.

A police code inspector tells KDKA the brake problem on the trailer is the same problem that caused a deadly woodchipper accident on Route 8 in 2006.
