Firefighters Hurt In Baldwin Blaze

BALDWIN (KDKA) ― Investigators say a lightening strike may be to blame for a three-alarm fire in Baldwin.

Several firefighters were hurt, including one who fell through two floors inside the house in the 5300-block of Brownsville Road.

The injured firefighter was one of the first on the scene. Dozens more snapped into action when they heard his call for help.

The veteran firefighter fell from the attack, through the second floor and landed on the first floor. Broughton Volunteer Fire Chief Dean Molinaro is amazed he was able to walk away.

"With a pack on your back and everything, you can break your back in a minute. So, that's definitely a big factor, that pack, that pack may have saved his life," Molinaro said.

The temperature inside was more than 200 degrees and that caused even more problems.

"Had two others injured with burns, and a lot of others going down with heat, with the heat and humidity today," South Baldwin Volunteer Firefighter John Bower said.

All of the firefighters are expected to be OK.
