Our recent wet weather may be to blame for sewage backup in Bellevue.
Several residents along Starr Avenue awakened to find sewage in their basements this morning.
An 80-year-old sewage main has collapsed.
This is just the latest problem in the area near the border with Avalon and it's not the first time the problem surfaced.
Some people had to leave their homes about two weeks ago because of the sewage backup and then it got even worse this morning.
Homeowner Joe Golubski says the smell is horrendous.
He's been dealing with it since the day after Christmas.
"My homeowners insurance won't cover the damages because it's the main line," said Golubski. "I have estimates it's up to $30,000. My hot water tank, my furnace
I've had no heat in this house for over two weeks. So, my pipes can freeze. And it's just the contamination throughout the entire house -- the smell. I'm in the process of trying to rent out or sell my house and the smell is just horrendous. The boroughs were fighting because it's a shared line between Avalon and Bellevue. So, it took them over two weeks to actually get out here and fix the main line."
Allegheny General Hospital's Suburban Campus is not affected.
Also, officials say they have now reopened Starr Avenue between Bellevue and Avalon to traffic.
