Downtown Pittsburgh Welcomes Artists For Festival

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Three Rivers Arts Festival is marking its 50th anniversary as it kicks off today in downtown Pittsburgh.

Vendors put the finishing touches on their displays in Point State Park and Gateway Center on Thursday night. And the festival opened around noon today.

"This is not only the 50th anniversary of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, it's the 25th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, and our way of saying thank you to the community for supporting this great community asset," said Veronica Corpuz, of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

The event offers lots to do including music, food and various types of art like wood-carvings, paintings and jewelry.

Organizers say there will be new features this year as well like an expanded children's area with kid-friendly performances and activities.

Officials say more than 500 artists will be showing off their work through June 14th.
